Miss Wax – Spirit of the Plants is a botanical research project rooted in Sardinia. It explores the chemistry, ecology and cultural heritage of Mediterranean plants through fieldwork, laboratory research and contemporary craftsmanship.

Founded by environmental scientist Silvia Cera, Miss Wax grew from years of scientific research and a deep curiosity about the relationships between plants, pollinators and people. Every project begins with observation—whether in coastal habitats, Mediterranean scrublands or the laboratory—transforming scientific knowledge into meaningful botanical experiences.

Today, Miss Wax brings together botanical research, experimental spirits and sustainable craftsmanship. Each creation reflects a Mediterranean landscape, a native plant or a scientific question inspired by ongoing research.

Rather than simply creating products, Miss Wax encourages a deeper understanding of nature through curiosity, scientific evidence and respect for biodiversity. The Philosophy
Plants are more than ingredients or raw materials. They are living organisms shaped by millions of years of evolution, ecological interactions and chemical adaptation.

Spirit of the Plants reflects the idea that every species carries its own ecological story. Through scientific research, Miss Wax explores these stories and translates them into contemporary botanical creations that invite people to experience Mediterranean landscapes in a new way. The Craft Miss Wax creations are produced in small batches in Sardinia, where botanical research meets craftsmanship.

The collection currently includes:

• Botanical spirits inspired by Mediterranean ecosystems and distilled with carefully selected botanicals.

• Artisanal candles and botanical objects created in collaboration with local makers using natural materials.

Every creation begins with plants. Field observations, laboratory analyses and scientific research guide every recipe, formulation and material choice.

Rather than simply producing objects, Miss Wax explores new ways of experiencing the botanical world through aroma, landscape and sensory perception.

Global Roots, Mediterranean Identity
Although deeply rooted in Sardinia, Miss Wax has been shaped by scientific and cultural experiences from different parts of the world.

Research and environmental studies in New Zealand strengthened an ecological perspective, while the University of Western Australia introduced practical beekeeping and pollinator management.

Five years in London, working at the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew, provided extensive experience with botanical collections, plant diversity and scientific research, further strengthening an evidence-based approach to Mediterranean flora.

In Indonesia, direct experience with traditional plant practices and aromatherapy offered a broader understanding of how botanical knowledge can contribute to wellbeing and everyday life.

Today, these international experiences converge in Sardinia, where Mediterranean biodiversity remains the foundation of every Miss Wax project.

Research & Pollinators
Scientific research is at the heart of Miss Wax.

Current work focuses on Mediterranean plants, plant chemistry and their ecological interactions, with particular attention to pollinator health and bumblebee conservation.

One area of research investigates the chemistry of Arbutus unedo (strawberry tree) and other native Mediterranean species as potential sources of natural compounds relevant to pollinator health.

Scientific integrity guides every stage of the project. Field observations, laboratory analyses and collaborations with researchers ensure that every creation is grounded in evidence while supporting ongoing botanical research.
